This scoping paper outlines the various ethical and social issues related to health-related forms of DTC genetic testing with particular attention to Australia and whether the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA) should adopt a formal policy regarding either DTC genetic testing or advertising of such tests. It does not address non-health-related uses of genetic tests (e.g., paternity or forensic uses), though some of its implications may also apply to these types of tests.
